As the average age of women seeking fertility treatment increases, egg donation is becoming an increasingly important option for them. In 2004, approximately 12% of all IVF cycles involved donated eggs. Egg donation also is a good alternative for younger women with premature ovarian failure or who have genetic disorders. Premaure ovarian failure is defined as the cessation of normally functioning ovaries in women less than 40 years of age.
Tower Fertility spends considerable time and resources on recruiting and screening egg donors. Once a donor has been selected and medically qualified, our medical team will coordinate the cycles of both the donor and recipient.
The decision to use an egg donor is not an easy one to make. For many women, this step means giving up the dream of becoming a biological mother. However, egg donation does allow them to experience the joys of pregnancy, childbirth and nursing and to have a child that is genetically related to their husband or partner.
Tower Fertility recommends that all patients considering this choice seek the advice of our social worker, who can discuss the pros and cons as well as long-term implications of making this important decision.
